The competition was created and originally held as part of the CART PPG IndyCar World Series . The first race was held in 1991 . After the division of the series in 1996 on CART and a new series called the Indy Racing League (IRL), the race remained on the calendar 1 until the liquidation of the series in February 2008 . In 2008, the race was held as an off-stage Indy Car stage, but in the 2009 calendar the stage was no longer included in any capacity. [2]

The first 16 races within this stage had an amazing feature - winning once, the rider could not then repeat his achievement. Finally, in 2007, the track obeyed someone for the second time: Sebastien Burde added a second victory to his triumph of 2005 .

As a support race, the weekend includes many popular Australian auto racing series, including the V8 Supercars and the Porsche Carrera Cup . Since 2002 , the Gold Coast race has been included in the calendar of races that count towards the V8 Supercars series .
