Kerch State Marine Technological University is a higher educational institution that trains personnel for the international merchant fleet.

On the balance sheet of the university are the training ship Katran and the naval base. A training center has been created at the university as a subdivision of industry significance for the preparation and certification of the crew of ships according to the STCW Convention . The university has 5 educational buildings and a well-equipped 8-storey hostel, which provides places for all nonresident full-time and part-time students.

History
On May 3, 1984, by order of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the Kerch branch of the Kaliningrad Technical Institute of the Fishing Industry and Economy was founded, which was subordinate to the Ministry of Higher Education of the Ukrainian SSR. [2]
On February 27, 1992, on the basis of the Kerch branch of the Kaliningrad Technical Institute of the Fishing Industry and Economy , an independent educational institution was created - the Kerch Marine Technological Institute (KMTI). [3]
In 1997, the Kerch Marine Technological Institute was transferred to the enterprises and organizations of the Ministry of Fisheries of Ukraine. In accordance with the proposal of the State Department of Fisheries of Ukraine, an educational, scientific and industrial complex was formed on the basis of the university . The founders of the complex are the Kerch Marine Technological Institute, the Kherson Maritime School of the Fishing Industry , the Odessa Maritime School of the Fishing Industry named after Alexey Solyanik , Belgorod-Dniester Marine Fisheries College, Southern Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (YugNIRO). In the same year, the Kerch Shipbuilding College was introduced into the institute as a structural unit. [four]
On July 12, 2006, the Kerch State Marine Technological University (KSMTU) was established on the basis of the Kerch Marine Technological Institute (KMTI). [5]
In 2007, the university was transferred from under the direct subordination of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to the subordination of the State Committee of Fisheries of Ukraine. Moreover, in terms of methodological support, the university’s direct ties with the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Department of Agrarian Education and Science of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine have been preserved. [6] In 2008, the Kerch State Marine Technological University received a certificate of accreditation of a higher educational institution of the third level. [7] In 2009, KSMTU was included in the State Register of Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine. [8]
