Biography
Dangatar Ovezov was born in the village of Mulk-Yusup in the territory of the modern Mary district of Mary province of Turkmenistan . He served as a shepherd. In 1930 he graduated from the Tashkent Pedagogical College. In 1930–35 he worked as a teacher in Tashkent [1] .
He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory under N. Timofeev. In 1940 - 1948 he was the first secretary of the Turkmen branch of the Union of Composers of the USSR, from 1941 (year of foundation) to 1948 - chief conductor of the Turkmen Opera and Ballet Theater. It is considered one of the founders of modern Turkmen music. People's Artist of the Turkmen SSR ( 1961 ), laureate of the State Prize of the Turkmen SSR named after Makhtumkuli (1966).
He is the author of the operas Shahsenem and Garib (1943), Leili and Majnun (1946, together with Yu. S. Matus ), Aina (1957, together with A. G. Shaposhnikov ), songs, romances and other compositions.
The name of the composer is the Turkmen State Music College .
