The monument to Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev in Tobolsk is located in the Upland part of the city on the territory of the 6th microdistrict, at the intersection of Mendeleev Avenue and Komsomolsky Avenue. Established in 1984 , sculptor V.N. Nikiforov. It is one of the historical and cultural monuments protected by the state [1] .

The famous scientist was born in 1834, the city of Tobolsk, then the capital of the vast Tobolsk province . Until 1850, his life was connected with this West Siberian city: Mendeleev studied at the Tobolsk male gymnasium, then lived in the village of Upper Aremzyany of the Tobolsk district . In 1899, on his way to Siberia, already a world-renowned scientist, Mendeleev stayed in Tobolsk for several days, visiting also the Upper Aremzyans.
Mendeleev's memory in Tobolsk
- In December 1899, when the Mendeleev visited his hometown, the Tobolsk people, as a sign of deep respect and gratitude, entered his name in the book of honor of the city, conferring on him the title of “Honorary Citizen of the City of Tobolsk”.
- The prospectus in the Upland part of the city is named after Mendeleev; in Podgorny Tobolsk Bolotnaya Street was renamed Mendeleev Street [2] .
- Located a few kilometers north of Tobolsk, the village of railwaymen and the railway station under it in honor of the great countryman are called Mendeleevo.
- In 1969, in honor of the centenary of the opening of the periodic law, the name of Mendeleev was assigned to the Tobolsk State Pedagogical Institute (TSPI). In the square in front of the entrance to the main building there is a bust of the great chemist.
- The name of the scientist refers to various school competitions at the district and city levels in chemistry.
