Bloom ( Russian "glow" ; pronounced "bloom", "bloom" ) - a post-effect in three-dimensional graphics , which is used in computer games and other 3D applications. The effect is used by game developers to create the effect of blurring light on the bright edges of the scene, overexposure by the camera when shooting, as well as to add more cinematic image.

One of the most famous games where this effect has been used is the arcade car simulator Need for Speed: Most Wanted . In this game, using the bloom effect, a glow from sunlight on the pavement is realized, as well as blur on the bright edges of the scene, such as the daytime sky.

The effect of the effect is much similar in effect to the other effect, “glow” , however, these effects have different ways of implementation, and as a result, differences in the image. Bloom is used in games along with the High Dynamic Range , but sometimes the simple inclusion of a bloom filter in the game’s settings is referred to as “enabling HDR”.
