Anthem text
According to the 20th article of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan , “The national anthem of Afghanistan must be in Pashto language , contain takbir , and also list the peoples inhabiting Afghanistan ” [1] . The anthem is written by the famous Pashtun poet Abdul Bari Jahani , and the author of the music is the famous Afghan composer Babrak Wassa. Jahani himself expressed concern that the requirements contained in the Constitution could lead to ethnic divisions, and that pronouncing the words “Allahu Akbar” to music was inappropriate [2] .

In 1992 , after the formation of the Islamic State of Afghanistan , a song called “The Fortress of Islam, the Heart of Asia”, written by Ustad Qasim in 1919, was used as the country's anthem. The anthem was in the Dari language - the Afghan version and a mixture of Tajik and Persian .
In the late 1990s , starting in 1996, the Taliban began to occupy most of the territory of Afghanistan, which came to power and founded its own state - the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan . Having come to power, the Taliban banned absolutely all the attributes of modern civilization, including music , and even the country's anthem, despite the pronounced Islamist content of the anthem. The Taliban actually ruled Afghanistan until 2001 , and in fact, from the mid-1990s until 2001, Afghanistan did not have its own anthem, and for so many years the anthem has not been played in the country. Despite the fact that the anthem "Fortress of Islam, the heart of Asia" de jure existed de jure. In 2001, the Taliban’s power fell , and in 2002 the anthem “The Fortress of Islam, the Heart of Asia” was restored by the interim government of Afghanistan. This anthem was the official anthem of the country until May 2006 , before the adoption of the current anthem of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
