Biography

Father Janis Miglinieks advocated for the Riga WEF. Sibling Raymond Miglinieks (born in 1970) is a professional basketball player who ex- CSKA .

From an early age he joined basketball. With the help of their father, the brothers learned to play volleyball, tennis, soccer, badminton, to skate, to swim. As a child, Igor also was engaged in ballroom dancing, and was the champion of Latvia in ballroom dancing and basketball. In the end, he chose basketball.

At the age of 16 he got into the Riga VEF, almost immediately began to play at the base.

In 1986, speaking for CSKA (Moscow), he became a member of the “currency scandal” when he found currency at the customs after returning from a foreign tournament. He was disqualified, was in the location of the military unit.

By 1988, disciplinary measures had been lifted, which allowed to eventually get in shape and get into the national team at the Olympics in Seoul.

In 1992, despite pressure from the Latvian Basketball Federation, Miglinieks and another famous Latvian basketball player, Gundars Vetra, decided to play at the Olympic Games in Barcelona as part of the United Team , since its players had agreed to perform at the Olympics before the collapse of the USSR [2] . The combined team took fourth place in the tournament.

Since 1992, he played for the teams of Germany, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Switzerland. He ended his career at Olympas (Plunge, Lithuania) (1996/97).

He worked as a coach in Latvia (the national team of Latvia, BC Broceni ), in Ukraine (BC “Kiev”). In the 2003/04 season, he worked as the head coach of the Arsenal Super League club. Together with Jonas Kazlauskas, he worked in China for two years.

Twice led to the championship title AEL (Cyprus).

In 2008 he worked as head coach at Spartak St. Petersburg .

At present - coach of BC Donetsk [3] .
