About the album
Desert Solitaire can be attributed to the superalbums of the ambient genre. It is very rare that an album recorded by three famous musicians becomes more than just a collection. This is just such a rare case. The diverse styles of Roach, Bracheny and Sterns create an incredibly vibrant, voluminous impression. As Roach himself said, “The Southwest Deserts are attractive and intoxicatingly beautiful, but they are also dangerous and frightening. We wanted to capture this timeless beauty, as well as express in the sound the intuitive experience from the real presence there. ”
Roach, Bracheny and Sterns each recorded two solo compositions. The title track was co-written by Roach and Braheny. Roach and Stearns recorded three tracks together. In addition, several other musicians were invited to record the album, including Robert Rich .
The title of the album was given by the 1968 book by American writer Edward Abbey (Desward Solitaire: A Season in the Wilderness), an ethnographic and philosophical description of the life of an eco-ranger in the deserts of Utah. The musicians talked with the writer and discussed his contribution in the form of several lines on the disc. Edward Abby died shortly before completing work. This loss can also be felt in the mood of the album, which became a real timeless dedication to the writer ...
