Biography
Danny is the youngest child in the Ronald family and Carol Minogue, her older brother Brendan is the television operator, and sister Kylie is the world-famous singer. Minogue appeared on television in the early 80s, in the talent show Young Talent Time , as well as the famous Australian soap opera Home and Away . Danny's solo career as a singer began in 1991 with the release of the debut single Love and Kisses, and then the eponymous album . Alas, at the musical Olympus, Danny was destined to be in the shadow of his older sister for most of his life. Since 2007, she has been a judge and presenter of top-rated British and Australian TV shows. Although, on the assurances of the sisters, they are very close, Danny absolutely does not tolerate when trying to compare her with Kylie.
Childhood and early art
Daniel Jane Minogue was born on October 20, 1971 in Melbourne , Australia . Danny began her career with the roles of Australian soap operas, she barely turned 7 years old, then she got a role in the TV series Skyways and The Sullivans . A year later, Danny was noticed by producers of the super popular show of young talent Young Talent Time . We can say that from this moment began her musical career. In 1985, Danny Minogue’s first solo song, “ Material Girl ” (a cover of Madonna’s song), appeared on the collection of hits of this show. Having received the long-awaited recognition of the public, she left this show and starred in two mini-series All the Way and Home and Away . In parallel with this, Danny tried her hand as a designer of clothes and did not lose - the whole line of her own fashion line and outfits of Dannii sold out in ten days.
1991–1996: Early Career
In 1991 Danny Minogue's solo single “ Love and Kisses ” was released, the album of the same name followed 3 months later. The single became incredibly successful both in Australia and in England, where Minogue soon moved. To this day, only a few songs of Danny occupied such high positions in the charts. The album also received the status of "gold" in England, where its sales amounted to 60,000 copies. Then followed the release of four more singles from this disc, and Danny received the title of "The most popular girl on television in Australia." But her success did not end there. In 1992, Minogue was offered a role in the film " Secrets ."
In October of the same year, the second album, Get Into You , was released. However, this work did not repeat the success of Love and Kisses - with the exception of the hit “This Is It”, the rest of the singles, like the album itself, turned out to be on very low lines in the charts. But the success of the musical already cared little for the singer herself - she married Australian actor Julian McMahon , with whom she starred in 3 videos. Their marriage lasted only a year. According to the official version, the reason for the divorce was the incompatibility of schedules - Julian was constantly on the set in Los Angeles , and Danny was in a studio in London . In her autobiography, My Story, published in 2010, Danny described in more detail about marriage and the break with McMahon.
The mid-90s was a period of relative calm for the younger Minogue, she returned to TV, released two singles for release in Japan, where they headed the National chart, starred in a photo shoot for Playboy . The issue is still the record for sales in Australia.
1997–1998: Girl
In 1997, Danny revived musical Olympus with the new song “ All I Wanna Do ”, which became “golden” in Australia, and in the UK, the song managed to reach 4th place, ahead of the success of “Love and Kisses”, and leaving behind her older sister's singles . The song received extremely positive reviews from critics and became Danny's first club hit. In the same year the third studio album under the straightforward name Girl was released . Australian is involved in candid photo shoots for a number of magazines, including Playboy , Maxim and others. In Las Vegas , a black and white 70s video was filmed for the second single, Everything I Wanted . Then the release of the much beloved “ Disrememberance ” took place. The final single, which was released only in Australia, was the track “ Coconut ” (a cover of the song by Harry Nilsson ).
From August to October 1998, Danny participated in a concert tour of the UK . The exact dates and the list of cities included in the Unleashed Tour have not been preserved, but it is certain that the singer gave concerts in London , Luishem , Nottingham and Belfast . Feedback from viewers who attended the show was extremely warm.
1999–2000: Theater career
In 1999, the record label Mushroom Records released two compilations of the singer in Australia - The Singles and The Remixes . Also saw the light of her new single, “Everlasting Night”. Due to the lack of decent PR, he reached only 42nd place in Australia, where he was released on January 18, 1999. But the clip on him was the most provocative in the career of a singer. Danny herself did not leave her favorite activity - posing for famous magazines.
Later, Danny is invited to take part in the staging of the famous play of Shakespeare's Macbeth . Then she played in two more famous productions: “Monologues of the Vagina” and “ Notre Dame de Paris ”.
2001–2003: Neon Nights
It took about two years before Danny again ventured to do music. Together with the Dutch project Riva, she recorded the song “ Who Do You Love Now? ". The sudden success of the single attracted the attention of popular record labels, between which, according to rumors, a serious struggle broke out for the right to release further releases by Danny Minogue. The single climbed to the 3rd spot in the UK Singles Chart and headed the US Billboard Dance Chart , becoming one of the most successful Danny's careers, who signed a contract with London Records to release six albums.
No less popular was the next novelty from Minogue - “Put the Needle on It” (7th place in the UK). And in early March of 2003 a successful single was released - “ I Begin to Wonder ”, and her most successful album - Neon Nights . The song lacked just a little bit to lead the UK Singles Chart , and it took 2nd place. Danny’s popularity grew as never before, she even began to run her own radio program “Neon Nights Danny Minogue”. “In the pop industry, you need to release albums as quickly as possible, but I didn't want to ruin everything because of the rush,” says Danny. Neon Nights was nominated for the ARIA Music Awards 2003 Award for Best Pop Release.
After the release of “ Don't Wanna Loose This Feeling ”, the singer has almost finished recording songs for the fifth studio album, which was never to be released. The London Records management has terminated the contract with her. According to one of the employees of the label, Neon Nights certainly enjoyed a certain demand, but this is not enough for the label to continue to work with Danny, and the revenue from sales of the album does not match the finances spent on his promotion. A lot of songs have not been released. In addition, the release of the final single - “It Won't Work Out” - failed.
2004—2006: The Hits & Beyond
Minogue signed a contract with independent label All Around the World and recorded a new song that became a hit - “ You Won't Forget About Me ”, in the video for which she starred with her friend, model Benjamin Hart. The single took quite good places in the charts, as well as the next creation in a year - “ Perfection ”. “I wanted to show the sun, the sea, the blue sky and beautiful young bodies in the music video,” says Minogue about the music video. To do this, two Spanish dancers were invited to the shooting of the video. The music for the song “Perfection” was created by the group Soul Seekerz , and Danny wrote the words to her, as a result the single became their joint creation.
Danny wanted to start recording a full-length album, but Kylie advised her to release a compilation of the best hits. Thinking, Danny came to the conclusion that by releasing such a collection of hits, one could, so to speak, draw a line and realize what she had achieved in 15 years of her career.
Having collected the 16 most high-profile hits (though then she assigned the unreleased single “ So Under Pressure ” to their number) and adding to them four completely new songs, Danny released The Hits & Beyond compilation in June 2006. The disc came to taste to fans who found the right decision to release a collection of hits. The PR of the compilation and the song “ So Under Pressure ” was average, as were the positions of the disks in the charts. Nevertheless, sales of the collection turned out to be quite good. And “So Under Pressure” was the tenth single topped the UK Dance Chart , and the seventh to lead the UK's Upfront Club Chart's. Not a single singer has yet succeeded in this, and Danny Minogue is officially recognized as the best singer of the UK's Upfront Club Chart, and also received the title of Queen of Clubs.
2007–2009: The X Factor and Australia's Got Talent
Since the transition to AATW (in 2004), Danny’s musical career has begun to decline. Released cover of the once popular disco song "He's the Greatest Dancer" was Danny's twelfth club hit. The release took place only in Australia, to which he was oriented. True, then the single “leaked” to Europe, so in Spain (in the absence of actual PR) he was awarded the ninth position in the chart. In addition, the song successfully “died down” on Sweden radio and received the attention of one of the Belgian labels who wished to acquire the rights to release a single in their own country.
In 2007, Danny signed a contract for judging two popular TV shows: Australia's Got Talent and The X Factor . The latter brought her considerable popularity in the UK, where it was broadcast. The panel of judges also included Sharon Osbourne , Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh . According to the results of the show, Danny's ward Leon Jackson won, and she signed a contract for the next season, in which Sharon Osborne was replaced by the girls Aloud lead singer, Cheryl Cole .
Autumn 2007 marked the release of several new products from Danny Minogue: two-disc deluxe re-releases of Girl and Neon Nights albums with bonus tracks and remixes , Unleashed rare material collection, the video collection of all Dannii Minogue: The Video Collection 's new single, Touch Me Like That ”, recorded jointly with DJ Jason Nevins, and, finally, a new album called Club Disco in digital format (in May 2008, the album was released in Australia by Central Station label as a two-disc edition).
In August 2008, Danny and Kylie Minogue recorded a duet cover version of the ABBA hit, The Winner Takes It All . The song was recorded as a soundtrack for the new BBC TV series Beautiful People (eng.) , Which premiered in October. Also, the younger Minogue continued cooperation with the popular clothing brand NEXT and again became a model for their new collection. If a year earlier she advertised underwear, now she has already begun to advertise clothes. For the first time, Danny was a NEXT model back in the mid-90s.
At the end of the year, it was also announced that the managers of The X Factor offered Danny to stay in the show in 2009. Thus, Danny participated in the judging of The X Factor and Australia's Got Talent for the third consecutive year. Nevertheless, the signing of the contract with The X Factor was delayed until the start of work on the new season - the show’s management and singer could not agree on the fee for filming in the new season, which, by the decision of Simon Cowell, was cut back compared to previous years. Danny for a long time refused to agree to an amount of £ 800,000 (despite the fact that Cheryl Cole received £ 2 million for her participation), which was the smallest of all fees of the jury The X Factor .
On December 7, 2009, the re-release of Love & Kisses and Get Into You albums, as well as the new disc The 1995 Session , containing songs from an unreleased album of the mid-90s, went on sale. Danny Minogue's musical career was de facto in “interrupted” status.
2010–2014: Pregnancy and Project D
Danny decided to recall the times when she released her own clothing line and presented a new collection of clothes, cosmetics and perfumes called Project D. , According to readers of Who magazine.
In May, the media published the news that the younger Minogue will remain a judge of The X Factor , the contract is signed, and she will join her colleagues a little later, when the qualifying round is over. This is due to the fact that Danny is physically unable to attend the first auditions due to the fact that her child should just be born.
On July 5, 2010, in one of the private clinics in Melbourne, Danny gave birth to a son, Ethan Edward.
On August 4, ITV2 launched a weekly reality show by Danny Minogue, Style Queen . This was followed by the release of the autobiography book My Story .
At the end of the year, Danny again won the judging on The X Factor , her protégé Matt Cardle beat Cheryl Cole, Rebecca, in the final. Danny Minogue signed several advertising contracts, in addition to the development of her fashion line Project D, and also continued to work on television in her native Australia, where she moved.
In December 2012, it was announced that Danny would take the place of one of the judges in the reality show “ Top Model in British and Irish ”, in addition, she resumed her work as a judge of The X Factor (this time the Australian version), her protege, Demi Im , won. In July 2013, it was announced that the fashionable brand Project D would cease to exist, and in August, the release of the compilation single This Is It: The Very Best Of , which contained the previously unreleased song “Cos you're Beautiful”, recorded during the filming of reality show style queen .
2015-…: Return to music
In February 2015, Minogue announced that she would perform at the Australian festival Sydney Mardi Gras, and at the end of the month she and British rapper Reece confirmed the rumors about working together on new musical material. Already on March 2, their joint track “Summer of Love” became available for pre-order on iTunes . And in November, the release of the joint track Danny and Kylie called “100 Degrees”, recorded specifically for the Christmas album “Kylie Christmas”, took place. Following this, it was announced that the sisters will perform this song during the final show of the X-Factor. In the spring of 2017 she recorded a cover version of Tina Arena 's single “Sorrento Moon” in a duet with Tina herself for her new album. The duo MOZA, popular in Australia, also participated in the recording. In November, Minogue joined the Australian tour of the group Take That , at the same time the premiere of her new song “Galaxy”, written by the singer Sia, took place .
Personal life
From 1994 to 1995, Danny was married to well-known Australian actor Julian McMahon . After she had a long relationship with the famous Canadian Formula 1 racer Jacques Villeneuve . For four years she was in a civil marriage with a former rugby player, now a model, Chris Smith . July 5, 2010 they had a son, Ethan Edward. In April 2012, the couple announced the break.
