Single Information
The World Is Stone is an English version of the song Le monde est stone , known by Celine Dion . The Francophone version was written in 1978 by Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon for the rock opera Starmania . The author of the English text is Tim Rice .
The song tells about the cruelty and indifference in the world. In a black and white video, Cindy walks through the rich neighborhoods of the city, abandoned dilapidated buildings and a cemetery. The clip also shows homeless people.
B-side single - the song You have to Learn to Live Alone (also from Starmania - the English version of Les uns contre les autres ), which, together with The World Is Stone, was included in 2005 in the collection (Hey Now) Remixes & Rarities .
Although the single was not released in the United States , it became quite popular in other countries of the world, entering the charts in the UK, Germany and Japan. The single enjoyed particular success in France, where he entered the top five best-selling singles for three months, reaching second place. Thus, France became the only country in the world where Cindy’s popularity in the 90s surpassed her success in the 80s. The long success of the single can be attributed in part to the fact that one of the authors of Le monde est stone , Michel Berger, died on August 2, 1992 — a few weeks after The World Is Stone .
