A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ga is a Ukrainian book publishing company specializing in the production and translation of children's literature into Ukrainian, Russian and English.

History
It was founded in 1992 by writer and ethnographer Ivan Malkovich and is the oldest Ukrainian publisher of children's books [1] . Located in Kiev . The name of the publisher is taken from the story of Ivan Franko “Grishina school studies” -
about a boy who grazed geese, then went to school, and every time he returned home, his father asked: “What did you teach?” The boy replied: "A-BA-BA-GA-LA-MA-GA" (that is, the "alphabet"). And when he returned a year later, began to feed the geese again in the summer and wanted to boast about what he had learned at school, the goose told him: "A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-GA." Then the boy thought that he was a goose, but he did not need to go to study [2] .
In 1992 - 2005 the publishing house has released about 100 titles of books, starting with the ABC: according to Malkovich,
My book business began with an angel. I always dreamed of releasing the alphabet with an angel on the first page, so that it would illustrate the letter “A”. But in Soviet times, this was unrealistic [3] .
At the same time, in 2004 the publishing house sold more than 400,000 copies of its products in Ukraine, and the total circulation of printed materials “A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-gi” over the 15 years of its operation reached 3 million copies [4] . We are talking only about publications in the Ukrainian language: until 2001 , “A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ha” did not print books in Russian, and then, after the publishing house’s exceptionally successful debut at the Moscow International Book Fair , books in Russian began to be printed with the mark "For sale only in the Russian Federation" [3] . Recently, “A-ba-ba-ga-la-ma-ga” also publishes translations of its own books into other languages: in particular, the tale of the editor-in-chief of Malkovich’s publishing house “Honey for Mom” ( Ukrainian: Honey for Moms , English Honey for Mommy ) came out in an English translation made by the wife of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko Kateryna, who presented a copy of the wives of foreign ambassadors to Kiev [5] .
Authors
Along with the works of Ukrainian authors, “A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ga” widely publishes translations into the Ukrainian language - in particular, there was a Ukrainian translation of the series of novels by Joan Rowling about Harry Potter , moreover, according to the publication of the Correspondent. net
The Ukrainian translation of the books by Joan Rowling, which was made by Victor Morozov, received high marks from experts. It is considered more accurate than Russian. Thanks to Ivan Malkovich, the fifth Harry Potter book came to Ukraine a month earlier than France, and four months earlier than Russia, becoming the first national presentation in Europe [6] .
The final novel of the cycle, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, also appeared in the first edition of A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-gi [7] .
International relations “A-ba-ba-ga-la-ma-gi”, however, are not limited to this: the publishing house is actively working in the foreign market, by 2007 selling the rights to publish its books in 18 countries [8] . This success is not least connected with the work of artists and designers of the publishing house - first of all, its first artist, Bone Lavro , the author of the bunny who was put on the cover of the ABC of 1992, which became one of the symbols of the publishing house, and the most famous of the illustrators A-ba baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Hans Christian Andersen " s, among them Victoria Kovalchuk , Katerina Shtanko , Evgenia Gapchinskaya [9] .
