Biography

Born in the village of Versonka ( Krupsky district , Minsk region ) into a peasant family. After leaving school in 1951 he entered the Physics and Mathematics Department of BSU , which he graduated with honors and was recommended for admission to graduate school at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus , where he still works.

Since 1970 , Goncharenko holds the position of Deputy Director for Research, is the head of the Mogilev branch of the institute, and since 1982 has been the head of the laboratory. In 1987, he was elected Chief Scientific Secretary of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus (until 1997 ) and returned to Minsk . At the same time in 1991 - 2004 he headed the Department of Optical Problems of Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus .

Since 2004 , AM Goncharenko - Head of the Laboratory of Optical Problems of Informatics, Institute of Physics. B. I. Stepanova of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus .

Andrei Markovich Goncharenko gave lecture courses for students of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov , BSU , GSU , Mogilev Pedagogical Institute and the Mogilev Engineering Institute . Under his leadership, 17 master's and 10 doctoral dissertations were defended. He is also a member of the editorial board of a number of scientific journals.

Scientific activity

The main works of AMGoncharenko are devoted to physical and integrated optics , as well as quantum electronics . He studied in detail the properties of the circular optical axes of absorbing crystals and crystal plates, the surfaces of refractive indices and absorption coefficients.

He constructed the theory of anisotropic dielectric waveguides and waveguides , revealed the effect of anisotropy on wave types, energy localization and critical waveguide frequencies, studied in detail isotropic and crystalline planar integrated waveguides , attenuation and amplification of light in thin-film waveguides , examined the waveguide properties of inhomogeneous thin-film layers eigenmodes of an inhomogeneous fiber . The features of amplification of waves in them were also studied, high-quality optical waveguides and fibers were obtained. A new class of organic compounds that are promising for the creation of waveguides is also proposed.

After the advent of lasers , a need arose for a consistent theory of the propagation of high-power light beams in various media. AM Goncharenko examined these issues, analyzed the propagation features of Gaussian elliptical beams in lens-like anisotropic and inhomogeneous media.

At present, AM Goncharenko and his staff are engaged in the creation of algorithms for parallel digital processing and transmission of information using completely optical methods, the development of new principles for creating appropriate integrated optical systems, as well as the study of promising nonlinear nanocomposite materials. Of particular interest are studies on the propagation of solitons in nonlinear media.
