Biography
Born in the Kharkov region , in the village of Budy , in the family of a blacksmith. His childhood passed in this area. After the outbreak of World War II and the arrival of Nazi German forces in Kharkiv, yesterday’s student became a member of a local underground organization.
Since 1943 he was a soldier, gunner, and then commander of an anti-tank gun. Together with units of the 1st and 4th Ukrainian , and then the 1st and 2nd Belorussian fronts, he fought in Ukraine, the Crimea, Western Belarus, Poland, East Prussia and Germany. [one]
In 1950, S. I. Ivchenko graduated from the Kharkov Agricultural Institute , and then graduate school at the Ukrainian Forestry Research Institute. In 1953 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of agricultural sciences on the topic "Fruit species in field-protective forest stands on ordinary black soil of the Ukrainian SSR" [2] .
In 1964, S. I. Ivchenko ’s first book, Tsikava Dendrology, was published , the preface to which was written by the poet Maxim Rylsky . A year later, in the publishing house of the Komsomol Central Committee "Young Guard" a book was published "The Mysteries of Cinnamon" with a preface by the USSR pilot-cosmonaut A. G. Nikolaev , who received a second degree diploma at the All-Union Competition for Popular Science Literature. He also published books “Trees-Monuments” , “Interesting about Botany” and “Garden over the Dnieper” .
In the early 1970s, S. I. Ivchenko defended his thesis for a doctorate in biological sciences on the topic “Wild fruiting Eurasia and North America and their introduction in Ukraine” [3] .
