Museum of Evolutionary Ecology and Archeology

The Museum of Evolutionary Ecology and Archeology of the VGU (branch) of VolSU was founded in September 1998 on the basis of an order from the director and the decision of the Academic Council of the institute, with the goal of “ensuring the educational process for students of the Department of History and International Relations and the Department of Ecology and Nature Management”.

Currently, the museum, occupying an exhibition area of ​​100 square meters, has three halls, where more than 2 thousand unique exhibits from all areas of the Volgograd region are represented. The basis of the expositions are paleontological, geological, archaeological collections, models, replicas, models, panels, sculptures and other works created by the head of the museum, Ph.D. A.A. Yarkovym. Naturally, later funds were replenished with materials from geological practices and integrated expeditions conducted by museum staff, as well as the Volga Floating University and the archaeological unit of the All-Russian State Institute of Volga State University “Gulistan”.

Scientific and educational-methodical work in the museum from the very beginning was built in accordance with the curriculum of the institute and the tasks that are very important for society to educate students in patriotism and a scientific and historical worldview. Seminars and workshops on geology, paleontology, as well as cultural studies and history are regularly held here. It is necessary to emphasize one more characteristic feature: unlike other museums of higher educational institutions of the region, the VGI Museum voluntarily assumed the cultural and educational function in the city of Volzhsky. More than 1000 schoolchildren of all age groups visit it annually. That is why, the scientific and patriotic activities of the museum staff were highly appreciated in the city, having awarded in the anniversary 2004 a diploma for their active participation in the city competition of school museums "My beloved city Volzhsky ."

The museum conducts excursions to delegates of international conferences held at the institute, to representatives of public organizations of the city. The guests at the museum were Unesco employees, deputies of the Regional and State Duma, scientists from the USA and other countries. Visitors enthusiastically described his work in the Book of reviews, but we are especially dear to the statements of students and schoolchildren who get in it a complete picture of the intriguing pages of the history of our region.

Chaired by A.A. Yarkova hosts meetings of the Russian Geographical Society, round tables that have been enlightened on the environmental conditions of the Volga region, as well as on the organization and functioning of specially protected natural areas, regional history classes and qualifying conferences with members of the Ichthyostegi children's science club.

Researcher A.A. Yarkov publishes his books (one of them, "The Living Dragons") and articles on paleogeographic studies and studies of the past planet Earth . His assistant Semenova Diana Aleksandrovna, who is completing a magistracy at VGI, helps him in this.
