Biography

Ian was born and raised in the Hyson Green district of Nottingham in a family of immigrants from Jamaica . At school, thanks to the initials of IC, he received the nickname ICE (later he interpreted it as Ian Campbell Esquire - Ian Campbell Esquire ).

In 1983, he joined a group of breakdancers traveling in Europe . In 1989, in Italy, he met Roberto Zanetti , a composer and singer, better known by the stage name Savage . Zanetti at that time was engaged in production under the pseudonym Robyx and was looking for a suitable rapper for a new project.

Their first hip-hop single Easy was released in 1989 and immediately hit the charts of all European charts, ranking fifth in Italy and third in Germany . Two subsequent singles, Cinema and Scream , as well as the Cinema album, released in 1990, also became popular in Europe and Japan .

Yan toured a lot, but Eurodance gained popularity - the direction of dance music at the junction of techno , house and Italo disco , as a result of which the album My World , released in 1991, was much less successful.

To record the third album, Zanetti invited the Italian singer Alexia as a vocalist, and ICE MC completely changed his appearance and style: now it was a raggamuffin . The album was designed in the classic Eurodance style and quickly hit the top places in hit charts around the world. The most famous hits included in the album are It's a Rainy Day , Take Away The Color , Russian Roulette and Think About the Way ; the latter also served as one of the soundtracks for the 1996 film On the Needle .

In 1995, Ice'n'Green remix album The Remix Album was released , the main single from which was the new version of Take Away the Color ('95 Reconstruction) .

In 1996, disagreements between the ICE MC and Zanetti lead to a break. Jan went to Germany, where in 1996 he released the not-so-popular Dreadatour album; The album was produced by Masterboy . In 1998, another attempt was made to conquer the charts: Busy Body and Energy promos were released , but due to the decline of the Euro dance era, major labels did not show interest in them.

At the end of 2002, Jan decided to return to Italy and contact Zanetti. As a result, in 2004, two new singles appeared - It's a Miracle and My World , then on April 19, the album Cold Skool was released on Time Records . Neither singles nor the album attracted the interest of the audience, and Jan again broke up with Zanetti.

Then Ian returned to England, where he began work on a new album, which was supposed to appear at the end of 2008, but never came out.

Since 2011, ICE MC has been releasing several new songs together with DJ Sanny J. ICE MC is an active facebook user, you can contact him at: iancampbell / facebook.com
