Biography

Jau began his career in the small Scarpo team from his hometown of São Paulo , where he played for 3 years. Barbosa received his nickname for his energy in honor of the Brazilian seaplane , which was the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean between 1926 and 1927 [2] [3] .

In 1932, Jau moved to Corinthians , where he played for 5 years, becoming the champion of Rio in his last season at the club, in 1937. For the club, the football player spent 143 matches and did not score goals [4] . In the same year, Jou was accused of having surrendered the game to “ Palestra of Italy ” [2] . Later, the charges were dropped, but the label "traitor" for a long time was fixed to the footballer [3] .

The following year, Jau began at the Vasco da Gama club, in the first season becoming the bronze medalist of the Rio Championship; he repeated this success in 1940, and in 1942 moved to the club " Madureira ".

The following year, Jau again changed the team, this time his new club was the “ Portuguesa Desportos ” from the home state of São Paulo . Jau ended his career at Santos . For the Brazilian national team, Jau spent 10 matches, he was part of the team that won the bronze medals of the 1938 World Cup in France , in which Jau spent one match with Czechoslovakia .

After completing his playing career, Jau became a priest [2] [3] .
