The President of Brazil (officially the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil or simply the President of the Republic ) is the head of state in Brazil , the head of the executive branch and the commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Brazil . The post was introduced in 1891 after the adoption of the first republican constitution . The first president of Brazil was Deodoro da Fonseca .

Elections and Inauguration
According to the current constitution, the president of Brazil must be at least 35 years old. He is elected in direct general elections from among candidates nominated by officially registered political parties and coalitions. The election of the President of Brazil is held ninety days before the end of the term of office of the incumbent. If no candidate received an absolute majority of votes, a second round of voting is held.
The President of Brazil takes office at a meeting of the National Congress , where he takes the oath to observe and defend the country's constitution, comply with laws, promote the general well-being of the Brazilian people, and maintain the unity, integrity and independence of Brazil [1] . The term of office of the president begins on January 1 of the year following the election.
In 1997, the Brazilian Constitution was amended to allow the re-election of the president for a second term.
Authority
The President of Brazil is competent to sign and publish laws and provisional acts, establish diplomatic relations with states and sign international treaties. The president sends development plans and budget projects to Congress. The president is also the supreme commander of the Armed Forces and has the right to impose a state of emergency and siege, declare war, grant amnesty, commute sentences.
The President can not leave the country for a period of more than 15 days without the permission of the National Congress, otherwise he may be removed from office [1] .
Substitution Procedure
If it is impossible for the president to fulfill his duties, they are performed by the vice president. If there are obstacles to the performance of duties by the Vice President, then the further substitution procedure is as follows:

- Chairman of the Federal Senate
- President of the Federal Supreme Court
