Adopted in 1983 . Able to target high - frequency radar . Less vulnerable to traditional types of interference, such as turning off the radar when a missile launch is detected, the HARM missile calculates the location of the target and can hit it even if the radar was turned off. Recent modifications are designed to defeat radar with a change in operating frequencies .
They are equipped with aircraft A-6 Intruder , F-4 Phantom II , F-16 Fighting Falcon , F / A-18 Hornet , F-111 Aardvark and Panavia Tornado .
Combat use
It was first used during an action against Libya in 1986 [3] .
Used against Iraq in 1991 , a total of 2,000 missiles.
There is a known case of an F-16 pilot attacking a rocket of this type of Patriot complex of coalition forces during the invasion of Iraq (2003). The incident was recognized by the command of the coalition, no casualties and destruction were reported, the interception of the attacking ammunition did not take place. [6] [7] . The PRR did not hit the target, but later in one of the radars, damage was discovered by a fragment of a rocket, which required replacing the radar. [8] [9]
