Autobiographical notes and diary

Half of his life passed under the tsarist regime, the other under the Soviet regime , which he met clearly unkindly, and in any case pointed to this. Pavel Petrovich outlined his impressions of his life in his two works: Notes , with a volume of 448 pages and Diary with a volume of 476 pages, which he wrote for many years, leaving in the form of handwritten notes. They were written on the clean, reverse side of clerical business papers of pre-revolutionary Russia. “Notes” cover the pre-revolutionary period, “Diary” - from November 1, 1930 to June 26, 1941 , although there may have been a continuation, but could not be found, and it would be interesting to know about the days of the Germans' stay during the occupation of Taganrog from the lips of P.P. Filevsky.
And "Notes" and "Diary", at risk for themselves, were preserved by the Oreshko family.

From notes

  • ... we moved to Taganrog (from Bakhmut - O. G.).
  • As soon as we arrived, it was in August, and they began to prepare me for the gymnasium, which my elder brother did, but it is known what preparation happens when they prepare their own. He was preparing for the third grade, but ended up in the second.
  • During the transition from VII to VIII class, I received an invitation to study with two boys during the vacation time for the Don landowner Mikhail Vladimirovich Adrianov. At that time I was already preoccupied with the means to continue my education at the university, because I knew that my father had nowhere to get them to support me in another city and therefore went for a month and a half for a hundred rubles.
  • Although I was not one of the brilliant students of the gymnasium by grades, and did not receive a gold or silver medal at the end, but only a mark of exceptional serviceability: from the fifth grade until the end of VIII grade I did not miss a single lesson, the authorities of the gymnasium distinguished me , and from some sums allocated 150 rubles to continue my studies. I alone received such a benefit and without any request, I did not even know that such subsidies were issued.
  • During the holidays, home meetings took place, where to go and which faculty to attend. I decided to go on a historical-philological one, because I loved history and knew it even then within the university, that is, even more in fact, and the teacher’s career attracted me, I somehow felt like an inborn teacher ...
  • My father and mother were congratulated on their family triumph, then there were not so many young people who aspired to universities, especially with modest means, and if my father climbed out of my skin for my sake, it was only because he was with a university degree.
  • So I went into the class, to get acquainted and an amazing thing, I did not feel the slightest embarrassment, as if I had entered my office. And by the way, the boys, between whom were of great age, were preparing a surprise for me.
  • ... The most important thing in my activity was that, having served as a teacher for 44 years, I always went to classes with pleasure, sometimes just with pleasure.

From the diary

April 27, 1933
At three in the morning they came with a search from the State Political Administration . They rummaged through everything, took several letters and books and arrested ... ... My interrogation lasted about two hours. They talked about my work, about my historical works, and at the same time I took out my "Taganrog History" from the box and said: "I read your book." At that time, the head of the State Administration entered the room and, seeing me, said: “We met again with you.” (He wanted to evict me from the apartment). The investigator, passing on to him the “History of Taganrog,” said that it was the work of Filevsky, to which he, turning to me, said: And you are not only a capitalist and a monarchist, but also a writer.

June 25, 1933
A few days after my return home, a new disaster struck me ... As a result, I am being removed from retirement. Pension, even if it’s only 40 rubles, but I’m losing my legal profile ... I appealed and the pension was immediately restored, but the bread that was no longer issued with the deprivation of the pension disappeared ...

December 26, 1939
... Now I am tormented by the thought of how to preserve my notes so that they can go to posterity and pass on everything that I survived, one of the sufferers of this terrible time felt. I’m afraid to pass it on to someone, he can destroy it in a moment of danger, but this puts him in danger ... ... To all this, I don’t have an heir to whom all my property will be transferred after my death and it may fall into the hands of the financial department ...
