Railway Philocardy in the Russian Empire

As a type of postal service, an open letter (postcard) was first put into circulation in October 1869 in Austria-Hungary , and from January 1, 1872 postcards appeared in Russia . Descriptions and thumbnails of samples of all open letters issued in Russia for the period 1872-1917 are given in F. G. Chuchin 's Catalog of Postage Stamps and Whole Items .

The first illustrated (photographic) postcards, dated November 18, 1895, depicted views of Moscow , showing the buildings of railway stations and stations . Under an agreement with the Ministry of Railways, the publisher A.S. Suvorin received a monopoly on the sale of his publications at all railway stations in Russia, in specialized stores and station kiosks. Large series were released on the architecture of stations, the construction of the Great Siberian Route , the Circum-Baikal Railway , rolling stock , horse-drawn trailers and other railway facilities.
