Biography

After the death of Khan Senge, his sons, Tsevan-Rabdan and Sonom-Rabdan, rebelled against the supreme power of their uncle, Galdan Boshogtu , but were defeated. Sonom-Rabdan was poisoned by order of Galdan, and Tsevan-Rabdan fled to Turpan . During the Galdan war against the Qing Empire in Mongolia (1690–1697), Tsevan-Rabdan raised an armed uprising in Dzungaria and seized the khan’s throne.

In 1698-1699, Oirat troops defeated the Kazakhs , and in 1700 Tsevan-Rabdan conquered East Turkestan . Under him, the Dzungarian Khanate established friendly relations with the Kalmyks who migrated to the Volga. Tsevan Rabdan strengthened the central authority and economy of the khanate, encouraging tillage and the development of crafts, crafts and trade. In an effort to expand the borders, he waged a series of successful wars in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, and in 1716-1717 he temporarily captured Tibet .

The Khan maintained lively embassy and trade relations with the Russian state , which, however, were complicated by the conflict of 1714-1715. But the main foreign policy efforts of Tsewang-Rabdan were aimed at confronting the aggressive policy of the Manchu emperors of the Qing Dynasty , with which he waged a series of wars in 1715-1721.

The years of Tsevan-Rabdan's reign were marked by the growth of power of the Dzungar Khanate, which reached the greatest rise in the reign of his eldest son Galdan-Tseren (1727-1745).
