Interwiki is a means of organizing links between different wikis on the Internet. When using it, you can avoid inserting the full URL of the page into the text, limiting yourself to an internal link. In this case, the link is formed as follows: the prefix of the remote wiki + the name of the page in the remote wiki .
Unlike the domain name system, there is no single database of interwiki prefixes, so each administrator of the wiki system determines them according to his needs or relying on the database of prefixes that was originally created by the authors of the wiki engine. There is also no single way to specify interwiki links - each developer of the wiki engine decides how it should look.

Example
This example is valid for MediaWiki and Trac . To create an interwiki link leading to a Jabber Wikipedia article, you must enter the text: [[wikipedia:ru:jabber|jabber]]
Wiki Support
The Syntax column shows the interwiki link to the Wikipedia article - jabber. In almost all systems, the prefix for Wikipedia is fairly predictable - wikipedia. Not all wikis support links to Wikipedia language sections other than English, for example, DokuWiki does not have this feature, therefore, to use links to the Russian section, you must additionally modify the prefix table.
| Wiki Name | |
| MediaWiki | [[wikipedia: ru: jabber | jabber]] |
| Trac | [[wikipedia: ru: jabber | jabber]] |
| Dokuwiki | [[wikipedia> jabber]] or [[wp> jabber]] |
| Wackowiki | wikipedia: jabber or [[wikipedia: jabber jabber]] |
Wikipedia Use
In the Wikipedia context, intervics are primarily links that point to the version of the article in another language section (they are located in the left side panel in the interface). The prefix in this case is the language code according to ISO 639 .
The interwiki mechanism is also used to organize reciprocal links between Wikimedia Foundation projects . Each of the fraternal projects has a predefined prefix. For example, to create a link leading to the jabber article in Wiktionary , you need to use the following text [[wikt:ru:jabber]] or a longer version [[wiktionary:ru:jabber]] .
