Gameplay

A screenshot of Takumi talking to Kozue. The green and red illusion switch marks are visible at the top of the screen.

The Chaos; Head game uses an original selection system called the "illusion switch" ( 妄想 ト リ ガ ー mo: co: toriga:) . [4] The system is based on the psychological state of the hero. On the screen you can see two markers: green and red. Green ( schizophrenia ) is located in the upper left corner of the screen, and red ( paranoia ) is located in the upper right. The third marker is transparent (not visible on the screen) and is selected by default. The player has the right to choose between green and red markers or ignore them. The choice can be determined over several screens of text from the appearance of the switch to the event. As a result, the player can choose the type of hallucinations that the hero will see. A green marker often leads to joyful or funny scenes with elements of fan-service , red in turn can cause scenes of extreme cruelty and violence. If the player has not made a choice, the character will remain in the real world. Also sometimes you have to answer questions (yes / no).

Story

The story of Chaos; Head takes place in Shibuya in 2008 and develops around Takumi Nishijo, a middle school student at the private Suimei Academy . Strange and brutal killings take place in the Shibuya region, called the “Madness of the New Generation” ( ニ ュ ー ジ ェ ネ レ ー シ ョ ン ) . History events begin on September 28, when Takumi talks online with a friend named Grim ( Japanese グ グ ム Gurimu ) . He is trying to quickly inform the latest events of the New Generation, but Takumi is not interested in local or international news. A man named Shogun ( 将軍 ) joins the chat in the middle of the conversation. After that, Grim leaves the chat, and the Shogun begins to speak. He speaks in very mysterious and confusing sentences, which makes Takumi nervous. Then the Shogun sends him a bunch of links with photographs: one of them depicts the brutal murder of a man nailed with cross-shaped stakes to the wall.

The next day, Takumi sees a real killing scene. A mysterious girl with pink hair at the end of an alley nails a man with stakes to the wall. Takumi realizes that he is witnessing a brutal murder, the photographs of which he saw the day before. Convinced that the girl is somehow connected with the Shogun, Takumi is trying to avoid the events associated with the New Generation. However, he witnessed a crime, which is why the police soon became interested in him.

The police suspect him, but Takumi is convinced that he is a victim of the Shogun. Takumi finds himself in a spiral of paranoia and misunderstanding. He is desperately trying to protect himself and find out why he is a victim. In the end, he contacts other people involved in past events, including the girl who committed the murder. He is no longer sure where reality ends and who can be trusted. He is drawn into a large-scale and seemingly impossible scheme, the plan of which is hidden behind the curtains of the mystical company NOZOMI Group.

Environment

Chaos; Head primarily occurs in Shibuya , Tokyo . Many scenes take place in real-life places in Shibuya, these are large clusters of pedestrians [5] and the facades of various buildings, although their names have been slightly changed. [6] The names of some well-known Internet sites such as Wikipedia , 2channel , YouTube , Google and Yahoo! are also modified in the game to avoid trademark conflicts and as a joke: We-Key Pedophiria, [7] @ -channel, MewTube, Deluoode, [8] and Taboo !.

Terminology

  • GE rate (from Gravitational Error Rate) - "level of gravitational anomalies." In the story, it affects people's behavior. Extremely high in Sibuya, artificially raised by NOZOMI during mass gatherings (holidays, elections) and earthquakes. An interesting fact is that NOZOMI every week (more precisely, every weekend) increased its GE rate by selling the popular and adored gerro-foggy in Sibuya. Perhaps in their name lies their mission - g-gravitational, ero - error.
  • Gigalo-maniac - a person who can turn his own illusions into reality (using a process called real-boot) and see the illusions of other gigantic maniacs. Possess Di-Swords, which are also their illusions. Genichi Noroset created the Noah II device, which has the capabilities of gigalo-maniacs.
  • Di-Sword - a sword, a weapon of gigalo-maniacs who receive it during a period of intense emotional stress.
  • Noah II is a machine covertly created by NOZOMI. It could arouse realistic illusions among people, and it was possible to control them (conspiracy of some members of the Committee of 300 to create dystopia and gain power). Genichi Norosé justified her need for sponsors by saying that she could help their political campaign. When creating this machine, experiments were carried out on gigalo-maniacs. Subsequent trials were associated with earthquakes in Sibuya.
  • New Generation madness (NewGen) is the name given in the press to a series of mysterious deaths that occurred in Sibuya. These include:
  • "Group jump" : five people threw themselves, holding hands, from a high-rise building. After some time, a fake video of this incident was published. Among the dead was Mia Kusunoki - the sister of Yua Kusunoki. All the families of the victims, except for the Kusunoki family, actively communicated with the press and stated that their children had no reason for suicide.
  • “Pregnant” : a premature baby was sewn into the man’s body. Subsequently, it turned out that this is a child of Mamoru Suva and Hazuki Sina, who committed the crime on the orders of the leadership of the “Church of the Divine Light”.
  • Pinning : 56-year-old university professor Toto Ota Hisashi was strangled and pinned to the wall of a non-residential building with pointed crosses. Takumi was his witness. This murder is the first in the plot of the game \ anime \ manga, while the previous two were committed before the events described there.
  • “Vampire’s house” : the unknown was brutally killed (as if most of the blood was sucked out of it), his skin turned green, and the inscription “These eyes are whose eyes?” Was written on the wall ( そ の 目 だ れ の 目? ) . A photograph of the victim was posted at an online auction by the user under the name "Vampire".
  • Brainless : the victim is Fumio Takashina, a psychiatrist who once treated Takumi Nishijo. His brain was extracted with a spoon-like object when he himself was still alive. The killer is Hazuki Shina.
  • “Tasty hand” : a woman was found dead, while her right hand was deprived of flesh, and traces of meat were found in her stomach. Shortly before the assassination, Genichi Noroset sent Takumi his sister’s severed right hand, Nanami, with a bracelet and cell phone he had donated. This incident, as well as the words of the Shogun that the hand might not belong to Nanami, falsely assured Takumi of this.
  • "DQN" : three young men were found killed (they were as if torn in half and stitched again). The letters DQN (short for delinquent - “garbage, renegade”) were carved on their foreheads. The victims are hooligans who paid for beating Takumi.

Rimi was dressed in the uniform of the Suimei Academy and immediately recognized Nishijo. Later in the class, she claims to be his friend from her first year of study, but Takumi cannot remember this. She also does not understand why Takumi believes that he saw her at the crime scene. At first she pretends to be an ordinary girl, but later she has to reveal herself because of Sena. Genghi was a test subject until the Shogun rescued her. She was supposed to help Takumi destroy the corporation, and then kill Takumi himself, but later fell in love with him.

Seiyu : Eri Kitamura

Nanami Nishijo ( Japanese 西 條 七 海 Nishijo: Nanami ) is Takumi’s younger sister and first-year student at the Suimei Academy . She often suffers from Takumi's antics and constantly argues with him when meeting, but in fact, she is worried about her brother. Due to the bullying of Genichi, she has her own Di-Sword. In fact, she is the sister of the Shogun, who changed reality and made her forget about it.

Seiyu : Wu Miyazaki

Ayase Kishimoto ( 岸 本 あ や せ Kishimoto Ayase ) is a second-year student at Suimei Academy , and at night she is the vocalist of the popular indie rock group Fantazm ( Japanese フ ァ ン タ ズ ム Fantazumu ) . Seiyu : Chiaki Takahashi

Sena Aoi ( 蒼 井 セ ナ Aoi Sena ) is a third-year student at the Suimei Academy . Takumi meets her for the first time on her way home. She often meets him in Sibuya, walks with a long Di-Sword and loves blue ice cream. He sends a photo with the crimes of the New Generation, the equation fun ^ 10xint ^ 40 = Ir2 and the phrase "These eyes, whose are they?", Which Takumi often repeats. Seiyu : Tsubasa Yonaga

He is interested in the crimes of the New Generation and hands over to Takumi all the details of the brutal killings. His interests are similar to Takumi: anime, manga and games. Later, he often uses the expression: “These eyes, whose are they?” - this phrase seriously disturbs Takumi. Later it turned out that Grim is Hazuki Sino ( 志 乃 葉 月 Sino Hazuki ) , the main killer of the New Generation . She was an assistant to the old Dr. Takumi, Fumio Takasina ( 高科 史 男 Takasina Fumio ) , and a member of the Church of the Divine Light, which has connections with the NOZOMI Group . At least three murders were committed by her: the murder of Dr. Ota, who raised the GE rate problem (it was Takumi who testified to him), the murder of Dr. Takashima (brain extraction), the murder of a Tokyo student (Hazuki independently performed a cesarean section and sewn up her own premature baby, conceived from Mamoru Suva, to the victim’s stomach).

Orgel Seira ( Jap. 星 来 オ ル ジ ェ ル Seira Orudzeru ) is the main character of the anime Blood Tunes the Animation and her favorite character Takumi. So, at the launch of Noah II, shortly after the birth of Sena’s sister, Mana, the woman was told that her husband had left to work and that she herself was living in solitude with her daughter. In reality, Mana died a month after birth, while his father unsuccessfully asked the NOZOMI leadership to suspend the tests. The experiment ended two years later, during which the mother looked at her daughter's mummified body, not realizing it. When she woke up, she lost her mind, in front of Sena, she began to devour the baby, beat her head against the wall, and then committed suicide by sticking a kitchen knife into her eyes.
