Bredalbane ( Gelsk. Braghaid Albainn ("mountain Scotland"); English. Breadalbane ) - a historical area in the center of Scotland , in the upper river Tay. Currently, the territory of Bredalbane is part of the districts of Perth and Kinross and Sterling .
The territory of Bredalbane is a hilly hill, in the center of which lies the long Loch Tey Lake. At the lower end of the lake, from where the Tay River flows, is the main city of the Kenmore area . At the top of the lake are the ruins of Finlarig Castle, the former residence of the Counts of Bredalbeyn.
Historically, the possessions of the Scottish Mac Nabs clan were located on the territory of Bredalbane, however, the advance of Campbell from Argyll to this region by the 17th century led to the crowding out of the Mac Nabs. One of the branches of the Campbell house in 1681 received the title of Earls of Bredalbane. John Campbell, 1st Earl of Bredalbane , was one of the most prominent Scottish statesmen of the late 17th century and an active opponent of the Anglo-Scottish union .
In Bredalbane, the largest population of moss of the species Bryoerythrophyllum caledonicum in the world is endemic to Scotland.
