Early years
Andris Johannes de Kreiff, better known as Andre, was born on 9 May 1895 in Amsterdam into the family of businessman Dirk Willem de Creiff and his wife Francis Heinrietta Maria Borgols. He was the second child in the family - he had an older sister, Geisha Maria, who in 1917 married Jan Grotmeyer .
In 1904, de Kreiff's father founded the linoleum company Linoleum Krommenie [2] .
Sports career
In September 1909, de Kreiff became a member of the Ajax football club [3] . At that time he lived in the central part of the city on Kerkstraat Street. In September 1914, he made his debut for the main team, playing in a friendly match against the club FOC, which ended with the defeat of his team with a score of 1: 5 [4] .
Two years later, Andre played in several cup matches, and at the end of December 1917 he held the first match in the second class of the Netherlands [5] . At the club, André played in the midfield position - in seven years he spent 94 matches and scored 3 goals in the Netherlands First Class. As a player of Ajax, de Kreiff received a call to the Dutch national team . His debut took place on March 26, 1921 in a friendly match against Switzerland , which ended with the victory of the Netherlands with a score of 2: 0 [6] .
His last game in the “red-and-whites” Andre spent on December 19, 1926 against the “ Excelsior ” [7] . In 1927, de Kreiff ended his football career at the age of 32.
Personal life
De Kröff married at the age of thirty-four. His chosen one was the 22-year-old Johanna Gertruyd Smith, a native of Amsterdam [8] . Their marriage was registered on May 16, 1929 in Amsterdam [9] . Wife was the daughter of Martin Smith, who at that time was the vice-president of Ajax. Her brothers Joop and Wim were also Ajax players.
In October 1934, their daughter Anneke was born, and in July 1937, a son named Robert Dirk [8] .
André died on November 29, 1964 at the age of 69 [10] .
