Biography
Born in Toril, Estonia. Both of his parents were music lovers. His father played the trumpet and trombone. The first talent of Eduard Tubin manifested itself in childhood, when the boy learned to play the flute and balalaika . Later, his father exchanged a cow for piano, so that the boy could learn more music, and Edward became famous in the village thanks to his playing. Tubin also played the violin well, wrote several concerts for this instrument.
He studied with Heino Eller at . He lived and worked in Nyö, Tartu County, where he taught at a local school. He worked in Tartu as director of the Vanemuine Theater . September 20, 1944 the day before the liberation of Tallinn from the Nazis fled with his family on the sailing ship Triina to Sweden, where he lived and worked until the end of his life [1] . Eight times visited Estonia.
In 1982, he was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
Wife - ballerina Elfride Tubin (nee Saarik). Son - Eino Tubin, an employee of the Ministry of Defense of Sweden and a free journalist.
Among the works: 11 symphonies (the last is not finished), 5 concerts, 2 operas, 2 ballets. A number of chamber and choral works. The symphonic works of Tubin are compared with the works of Sibelius, Nielsen and Shostakovich.
