Albert Quixall ( born Albert Quixall ; born August 9, 1933 in Sheffield , England ) is an English striker . Best known as a player in the English clubs Sheffield Wensday and Manchester United .

Club career

He started playing football for school teams in Sheffield , then he played in the youth team “Mainell Ut”, also from Sheffield. In 1948 he signed an amateur contract with Sheffield Wensday and played for the youth composition of the owls for two years. On August 25, he signed his first professional contract [1] . In the main part of the "Sheffield Wensday" debuted on February 24, 1951 [2] . He played for the club for more than 7 years, playing a total of 260 matches and scoring 66 goals.

September 18, 1958 moved to Manchester United . Matt Busby at that time was rebuilding the team after losing 10 players in the Munich tragedy . The transfer amount was 45 thousand pounds (at that time it was a record amount for British football). Sunderland also claimed the player, but United offered a large sum [1] . Quixall made his debut for Manchester United on September 20, 1958 in the First Division match against Tottenham Hotspur , which ended in a 2-2 draw. After the transition from Quixall, United could not win 7 games in a row, and only won on November 1 (over Leeds United ). Nevertheless, according to the results of the 1958/59 season , United took second place in the championship, losing 6 points to Wolverhampton , who became the champion.

In 1963, he helped the team win the FA Cup , playing in the final against Leicester City .

After losing to Everton in the 1963 England Super Cup 4-0, Matt Busby pulled Quixall, Johnny Giles and David Heard out of the main squad. In the 1963/64 season, Quixall spent only 9 matches in the championship. The last time he played for the club was December 26, 1963, when Burnley defeated United with a score of 6: 1 [3] . In total, he played 184 matches for Manchester United and scored 56 goals [4] , including two hat-tricks (on April 12, 1961 at the Burnley goal and on April 7, 1962 at the Ipswich Town goal) [5] .

September 8, 1964 he moved to the " Oldham Athletic " for 7,000 pounds [1] . He played for Oldham for two seasons, playing 41 matches and scoring 11 goals.

In July 1966 he became a player at Stockport County . In February 1967, he announced his retirement due to injury, playing 14 matches for the club. However, later that year he became a player of Altringham , but played for him only 3 matches in the league, after which he finally hung his boots on a nail [1] .

Quixall spent five matches for England from 1954 to 1955 [6] . He also played for the England school team (two games in 1948, the England national team under 23 (1 game in 1956) and the second England team (three games from 1953 to 1954) [1] .
