History
Northgas was established in 1993 to develop part of the North Urengoyskoye field with reserves of 332.7 billion m³ of gas, 52.4 million tons of condensate. Commercial exploitation of the field began in 2001 . Initially, 51% of Northgas belonged to Urengoygazprom , but in the early 2000s its share fell to 0.5% in favor of structures friendly to the entrepreneur Farhad Akhmedov , who led Northgas. For several years, Gazprom tried to regain control of Northgas through the courts. [4] [5]
In June 2005, Gazprom and Farhad Akhmedov went to the world. Urengoygazprom received a 51% stake in Northgas free of charge, while Cypriot REDI Holding (its beneficiary Farhad Akhmedov) retained 49%, and they have the same right to manage the company. Under the terms of the world, if one of the partners violates them, the second has the right to sell him his share at the market price. [4] In the fall of 2005, REDI notified the monopoly of its intention to exercise the option.

As of October 2012, Gazprom owned 51% of the company's shares, and Farhad Akhmedov, an entrepreneur, 49% [6] .
In early November 2012, it was announced that Farhad Akhmedov had agreed to sell his stake in Northgas to another Russian independent gas producer, Novatek . It was assumed that the deal, the amount of which would be $ 1.375 billion, should be closed before the end of 2012 [6] .
