Biography
He studied with Antoine Montfort, Louis Lamotte and Alexander Cabanel . In 1864 he exhibited two portraits in the Paris Salon . In 1866 he was awarded the Rome Prize for his painting Thetis brings weapons to Achilles. The drawings made during his stay in Rome were included as illustrations in Francis Wey 's book “Rome” published in 1872 (27 works: costumes, folk scenes, holidays and environs of this city). The trip to Spain undertaken in 1868 reinforced the southern coloring of Reno's works; During this trip, he painted the famous portrait of General Juan Prim . Reno's next trip to North Africa gave one of his most famous works, "Execution without trial in the Moorish kings of Grenada." The year 1870, marked by such paintings as “Salome” and “Judith and Holofernes”, became the most fruitful in the life of the artist. The following year, he left the militia for the Franco-Prussian war and died in the Battle of Buzenvale .
