In March 1658, the government of the Ottoman Empire removed Georgy Stefan from power in Moldova and appointed Georgy Gika, the new sovereign, who, having come to power, soon concluded an alliance treaty with the Transylvanian prince Gyorgy II Rakotsi . At the beginning of November 1659, the Moldavian throne was seized by the exiled Wallachian ruler Konstantin Sherban Basarab , removing the Turkish protégé George Giku from power. Georgy Gika called for help from the Crimean Tatars, who expelled his rival.

In November 1659, the Turks expelled the Wallachian ruler Michnes III (1658–1659), who fled to Transylvania. Porta was appointed the new Lord of Wallachia George Gika, who held the throne for one year, without the support of the boyars . In the spring of 1660, Konstantin Shcherban arrived from Transylvania to Wallachia, where he unsuccessfully tried to seize the throne of the Godar. Georgy Gika received help from the Crimean Tatars and expelled his rival. In September 1660, George Gika ceded the Wallachian throne to his son, Gregory Gike (1660-1664).

During the reign of Wallachia, George Gika moved the capital from Targovishte to Bucharest .
