Global Distribution System ( English Global Distribution System , GDS ) is an international computer booking system .
Computer reservation systems ( computer reservations system , CRS ) were originally developed and used only by air carriers . The first such systems appeared in the mid-1960s. These systems were then extended for use by travel agencies. Later, the systems also began to include the possibility of booking hotel rooms, sea cruises , car rentals, bus tickets, etc. Travel agencies connected to the terminals of global distribution systems were able to provide real-time booking services to their customers.
The largest GDS include:
- Amadeus [1]
- KIU
- Galileo [1]
- Saber [1]
- Worldspan
- Abacus
Major GDSs have become members of the SITA International Aeronautical Society.
In Russia, the GDS "Siren" was created in Russia.
