Biography
David Brandes was born December 9, 1968 in the city of Basel , in Switzerland . He began to sing very early, from the age of three. David founded his own group when he was 13 years old. From that moment, according to Brandes, his musical career began.
At the age of 18, David Brandes released the first solo singles “Starry Night” and “Dream Baby” ( Eurodisc in style). They did not bring him much fame, but they allowed him to receive an invitation from Tony Hendrick to the Xanadu quartet, which was nominated from Germany to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest . On the qualifying round in 1989, the group took 2nd place with the song “Ein Traum Fur Diese Welt” . The quartet also included the beautiful vocalist Lyane Leigh , with whom Brandes worked for a long time after the breakup of Xanadu .
Leaving Coconut in 1990 , David began his solo career as a singer. With the support of Bernd Meinunger and Gary Jones, he recorded several solo singles in the German hit genre. Among them were re -hits of famous hits (Nick Kamen “ I Promised Myself ” and Saphir “Shot In The Night”), as well as songs of his own composition (“Jenseits der Nacht”, “Angie”, “Helpless Dancer”). The ballad "Helpless Dancer", recorded in a duet with Lian Li, became the prototype of a new stage in his career.
In 1994 , under the influence of the popular European dance in Germany, he wrote the song “Max, Don’t Have Sex With Your Ex”, in which Lian Li again performed the female part, and Marcus Deon Thomas played the male part (rapper, member of the Splash euro dance groups and Pharao [1] ). The single was released under the name E-Rotic in the summer of 1994. After the song became a hit in many countries (including No. 4 in the Netherlands, No. 7 in Germany, No. 20 in France [1] ), Brandes decided to focus on studio work and hire a model to perform on stage. The first "concert" vocalist was Raz-Ma-Taz (Richard Michael Smith). In the future, despite the constant changes in the composition of the duet, the male vocals in most of the songs belonged to David Brandes, the female - Lian Li (until 1999 inclusive) and Lydia Madaevsky (from 2000 to 2003).
E-Rotic 's first album, Sex Affairs, was released in 1995. By this time, one of the most successful creative Eurodens teams had developed: David Brandes, John O'Flynn, Felix Gauder , Domenico Labarille and Gary Jones, followed by the name “Bros Team” was established in honor of the record company “ Bros Music ”, organized by Brandes in a small alpine town on the border of Germany and Switzerland .
From 1997 to 2001, David Brandes worked with the famous British singer Chris Norman . With Brandes, Chris Norman recorded Into The Night, Full Circle, and Breathe Me In.
In 1997 , Brandes wrote several solo compositions for a former Modern Talking member Thomas Anders that never saw the light of day because of the reunion of Modern Talking .
In the late 90s, Brandes, as a producer and author, participated in the recording of two albums, “ Bad Boys Blue ” Back ( 1998 ) and Continued ( 1999 ). He planned to continue working with this team, but due to a number of legal tensions with Tony Hendrick , he was forced to abandon this decision.
In 1998, David Brandes produced the rap version of the hit Fancy Flames Of Love, and then in May 1999 he recorded with him the whole album “DISCO” . However, by his own admission, this joint project was unsuccessful and he did not receive much pleasure from working with Fancy .
In 2002 , after breaking up with Coconut Records , Bad Boys Blue switched to Bros Music , and David Brandes was the producer of this group until 2005 . The result of a fruitful collaboration was the album Around the World ( 2003 ).
The peak of Brandes' success occurred in the period 2004-2005 , when the Vanilla Ninja rock band he produced from Estonia became very popular in a number of German-speaking countries. However, in the spring of 2005 , a scandal erupted in the media , in which Brandes was accused of manipulating the charts (a certain group of people specially bought CDs so that projects got higher places in the charts). As a result, several records of Vanilla Ninja , singer Gracia and Virus Incorporated were excluded from the charts.
However, the scandal did not prevent two Bros Music projects from performing at the international Eurovision Song Contest 2005 . Singer Gracia acted as the representative of Germany , and Vanilla Ninja - Switzerland .
After the scandal, David Brandes changed his studio name to Icezone-Music and began re-publishing songs written in the previous decade. Anglo-Japanese versions of the songs were made (Shanadoo project), German (Christian Lais) and Estonian (Erich Krieger, Niki, B-Jeans, etc.). In addition, cover versions of Brandes' songs were published in Belgium (Popz), Japan (Hinoi Team) and South Africa (Elizma Theron, Dennis East).
David Brandes has repeatedly been involved as an author and producer for graduates of the German “star factory” Deutschland sucht den Superstar (4 United, Gracia, Xantoo, Dennis Haberlach, Lemon Ice).
Since 2008, Brandes has been in demand on the German music market as an author in the hit genre. With his participation, new albums of Bernhard Brink, Simone Shtelser, Christian Franke and several other German and Austrian artists were recorded. Ute Freudenberg & Christian Lais - Ungeteilt was awarded the Golden Disc Award for 100,000 copies sold.
In the summer of 2010, the famous instrumentalist Edward Simoni published several pan-flute tunes by David Brandes on his anniversary collection.
