History
The Swedes, who formed the backbone of the regiment, initially served in three Dutch regiments, however, at the Battle of Fleurus (1690) they were captured by the French, who, according to the custom of the time, invited them to switch to French service.
The name was assigned to the regiment only in 1742 after it distinguished itself in the defense of previously captured Prague. At the same time, as a reward to the regiment, privileges were granted to all royal regiments.
In 1760, the Royal Polish Regiment (Royal Polon) joined the Royal Swedish Regiment. In 1791, the regiment changed its name to the 89th line regiment.
It was a kind of forge of officers for the Swedish army. During its existence, he participated in the War of the Palatinate Succession (1688–1697), the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1713), the War of the Polish Succession (1733-1735), the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748), the Seven Years War (1756 -1763) and the War of the American States for Independence (1775-1783).
The Royal Swedish Regiment was also called the Swedish Regiment, recruited in Pomerania in 1813 and consisting of French and Italians. After participating in minor skirmishes in Norway, it was disbanded on December 23, 1814.
