Minakov, Egor Ivanovich

Egor Ivanovich Minakov ( April 10 (22), 1854 - September 21 ( October 3 ), 1884 ) was a Russian revolutionary close to the Narodnaya Volya organization.

Origin from a family of Odessa officials. Member of the revolutionary circle M. Ya. Gellis . In February 1879, Minakov and Govorukhin, members of the Odessa revolutionary circle, suspected N. Goshoft, who was engaged in propaganda among the workers on behalf of the circle, of espionage and committed an attempt on him. However, the provocateur Goshtoft survived, and Minakov and Govorukhin were arrested [1] . He was sentenced to 12 years of hard labor for attempted murder.

He was convicted a second time on March 26 - April 1, 1880 according to the process of organizing M. Ya. Gellis . The term of hard labor was increased to 30 years. On the way to Kara, he fled from the stage in the Yenisei province, was soon caught and sentenced to hard labor without a term.

On April 30, 1882, he made an unsuccessful escape together with N.F. Kryzhanovsky from the Nizhny Karya prison. In June 1883 he was imprisoned in the Peter and Paul Fortress. In 1884 he was transferred to Shlisselburg . A few days after the transfer, on August 24 hit doctor Zarkevich, who was suspected of poisoning. Minakov refused to submit a petition for pardon and was shot on September 21.

Shlisselburg signified the end of hope, and Minakov did not want to slowly die in the new Bastille - “a deck of rot that fell into silt,” as he put it in his poem. He demanded correspondence and visits with relatives, books and tobacco and went on a hunger strike, and then slapped the prison doctor Zarkevich. In the fortress it was said that a slap was given when the doctor tried to feed Minakov artificially. But from the documents opened after the 1917 revolution, it is clear that Minakov suffered from hallucinations of taste and suspected that the doctor mixed poison with food in order to poison it. If this is so, then it is all the more outrageous because the person, mentally abnormal, was put on military court and shot. ( V.N. Figner )
