Avadhuta

Avadhuta ( Skt. अवधूत , avadhūta IAST ) is a term in Hinduism that refers to a person who has completely overcome the duality of the material world. Avadhutas, freed from all worldly sufferings and duties, live and act, without becoming attached to anything and not worrying about anything. These are pure and simple, like children, personalities. Avadhuta does not identify with his body and mind - he has reached the purest level of consciousness available to the individual soul ( jiva ) in human incarnation. Avadhutas have played a prominent role in the history of a number of Hindu traditions, such as yoga , Vedanta and bhakti .

The most famous avadhuta is Dattatreya - the avatar of Brahma , Vishnu and Shiva in one person. In modern India, Dattatreya is a very common name, primarily among the Marathas (it may be the name of some high castes ), along with a common abridged version of this name in India - Datta. In the tradition of Gaudiya Vaishnavism , the famous Avadhutas were Nityananda and Gaurakishora Das Babaji .
