History

In 1998, the Uruguayan Football Association decided to reform the championship. Previously, professional teams existed mainly only in Montevideo (with the exception of Deportivo Maldonado ). In Uruguay, the Cup of the strongest teams of the interior was held, which won in 1998 the Paysandu Belle Vista . Pretty soon in the Example began to play more teams that did not represent the capital of the country. However, Rivera , Maldonado and Paysandu were represented by clubs that had existed for many years, albeit in an amateur status. In Tacuarembo, they decided to combine numerous amateur clubs into one, representing the city on a professional level. Thus, on November 13, 1998, FC Takuarembo appeared. In 1999, the team was immediately included in the First Division and over the next 12 seasons the team never left the elite. In order to gain recognition from fans, the management of the new club decided to use the version of the national team of the Tacuarembo department , which had previously participated in amateur championships of Uruguay at the level of national teams, as a home uniform.

The positive experience of Takuarembo combining numerous teams into a single professional club was subsequently used in other departments. Thus appeared FC Rocha (participant of the Libertadores Cup 2006 ), FC Serro-Largo , FC Salto , FC Paysandu .

FC Tacuarembo represents the entire department of Tacuarembo in sports competitions, with the exception of the city of Paso de los Toros . In the 2010/11 season, Takuarembo presented the third version of the form, yellow and blue colors are designed to help attract fans from Paso de los Toros.

The fans of the team have a large flag with the inscription “Tacuarembó es gardel” ( Tacuarembo is the Gardel ), which emphasizes the version of the birth of the famous tango dancer in this city.

According to the results of the 2010/2011 season, Takuarembo took only 15th place in the relegation table (which is formed based on the results of the last two championships) and left Primera for the first time in its history. Due to the fact that in 1999 the team was automatically allowed to compete in the elite, the 2011/12 season will be the first in history that Tacuarembo will play in the second tier of Uruguayan football after 13 years in Example.
