Biography
From a young age he was actively interested in politics.
During the First World War he voluntarily joined the army. He served as a junior lieutenant in units of alpine shooters. Awarded the Silver Medal.
After the war, joined the movement "Liberal Revolution" ( Italian: Rivoluzione Liberale )
During the fascist dictatorship, he was a lawyer in Turin.
After the fall of fascism, during the German occupation he became a member of the National Liberation Committee in Rome .
After the liberation of Italy, becomes Secretary General of the Liberal Partnership.
October 1944 - June 1945 - Minister without a portfolio in the first and second Governments of Bonomi .
June 1945 - November 1945 - Deputy Chairman of the Italian Council of Ministers in the Government of Parry .
December 1945 - July 1946 - Minister of War in the Government of De Gasperi .
1947 - 1951 - Italian Ambassador to the USSR ( Moscow ).
1951-1955 - Ambassador of Italy to Great Britain ( London ).
1955-1960 - Italian Ambassador to the United States ( Washington ).
1960-1964 - Ambassador of Italy to France ( Paris ).
1964–1971 - NATO Secretary General .
1972 - 1976 - Italian Senator from the Liberal Party and Chairman of the Senate Liberal Party Group.
Since January 1979 - Chairman of the Atlantic Committee of Italy.
