Table Tennis at the Olympics

Table tennis

The table tennis competitions at the Summer Olympics first appeared at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and have since been included in the program of each subsequent Games. The competition was initially held in singles and doubles, team level was introduced at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing instead of doubles.

Until the 2016 Games, four sets of awards were played in this sport. In 2017, it was announced that mixed-double competitions would be included in the 2020 Olympic program in Tokyo [1] . Thus, for the first time in table tennis, 5 sets of awards will be raffled, not 4.

Throughout history, between 1988 and 2016, 32 sets of awards were awarded. Chinese athletes won 28 gold medals, representatives of the Republic of Korea won three victories, and one victory was won by the Swedes.
