History
In 1930, Muleihe County (木垒 河 县) was separated from Qitai County. On July 14, 1954, it was transformed into the Mora-Kazakh Autonomous Region; on February 14, 1955, the autonomous region was transformed into an autonomous county as part of the Urumqi Special Region. In 1958, the Mory-Kazakh Autonomous County was transferred to the Changji-Hui Autonomous Okrug.

Population
The population is dominated by Chinese , Kazakhs , Uighurs , Uzbeks and Hui .
