General Information

Early Creation

Andy became interested in rock music at the age of 14, his first favorite band was Sweet. Then he began to learn to play the guitar. In 1979, Andy attended his most memorable rock concert: KISS performed on the Dynasty tour in Karlsruhe. At age 15, Deris created his first band, Paranoid. Andy admitted that, despite his efforts, he could not become a good guitar player, and took on vocals. The drummer of the group was Ralf Maurer, who later changed his last name to Mason (Ralph Mason), with whom Andy was friends from grade 6. In 1981, Andy renamed Paranoid to Nameless. At this time, he met Alfred Koffler, who played in a rival group, the rehearsal base of which was two houses from the base of Andy's group. Both groups occasionally staged joint jams. In the winter of 1984, Andy successfully auditioned with his brothers Di Blasio and Lüddemann and became the lead singer of Dragon. With this group, Andy performed throughout the year with concerts in Karlsruhe County and recorded a demo - combining this with his studies at the University of Karlsruhe with Ralph Mason. Apparently, vigorous musical activity hurt Deris's studies. In 1985, he was drafted into the army, where he performed compulsory military service for 9 months. Upon his return to Karlsruhe, Andy decided to continue to study music. In 1986, he and the Di Blacio brothers revived their group, renaming it Kymera. Ralph took the place of the drummer, volunteering to help a friend, but he soon realized that musical activity was hindering his studies, and he was replaced by Costa Zafiriu. In early 1987, Andy and Costa left Kymera, deciding to create their own band. In 1987, Andy recorded vocals on the album "No Mercy" by the band of the same name. No Mercy had completely finished material, but there was no singer, and Andy's voice turned out to be suitable.

Pink Cream 69

Side activities did not prevent Deris from organizing his own group, the name for which he borrowed from the name of the cocktail. Andy listened and fully approved the candidacy proposed by Costa Alfred Koffler, and in early 1988, an acquaintance with the American Dennis Ward understaffed Pink Cream 69. In the same year, the group won the competition held by Metal Hammer magazine and, as a result, faced with the choice of several prestigious offers from recording studios. Pink Cream 69 settled on Sony Music and in 1989 debuted on this label with the album of the same name. Andy Daris became truly famous in the Pink Cream 69 and even then caught the eye of his future colleague and friend at Helloween Michael Wikat. At first, Pink Cream 69 performed at the opening acts of such groups as, for example, White Lion. But soon they themselves were headlining and organized their own tours. A concert in Japan in 1992 was recorded for the DVD “Size It Up”. After releasing three albums, Andy Deris left Pink Cream 69 in 1994 due to musical disagreements with his colleagues and accepted the offer of Michael Wikat to join his band Helloween .

Helloween

For several years, Weikath regularly tried to get Deris into his group, but Andy did not even allow himself to think about leaving PC69. But, faced with the choice to leave on his own or drive out the discontented, Andy chose an easier path and went from Karlsruhe to Hamburg. Transition Deris was ambiguously accepted by fans of the PC69. Some fans followed him and helped reanimate the dying Helloween, and some branded him as a traitor. Andy himself calls leaving the group as the hardest test of his life. Deris immediately became the leader of the group along with Michael Vaikat - from that moment they became the main composers of the group. As for the first album of the band “Helloween” with Andy's vocals (“Master of the rings” (1994)), it was from this disc that the third part of the history of the group “Helloween” began (the first part of the story is with Kaye Hansen, the second is with Michael Kiske ). For the third and so far last time the style of the group has changed. This album gave the Helloween a new life, and the second album with Deris “The time of the oath” was released in 1996. It was a huge success - the album was sold in much larger quantities than all previous group albums.

In Helloween, Andy quickly became almost the main songwriter of the group, but even so he still had a lot of material written for himself and not suitable for the format of the group. This led to the decision to publish his own solo album, which was done at the end of 1996. Musically, the material of the solo album Come In From the Rain, published in March 1997, is very similar to the work of Deris in Pink Cream. In 1999, Deris recorded the second solo album “Done By Mirrors”. This work has turned out experimental and innovative. On both albums, Ralph Mason played drums.

Personal life

In 1994, Andy left rainy Germany and moved with his family to Tenerife, fulfilling his dream of living on a warm sunny island. A recording studio was attached to the purchased house under his personal guidance. His wife, Lydia, brings up her son Ron, who was born in 1993. At home, Deris loves to play the guitar, as a result of which his works are born. He considers music to be his hobby, and convinces that he will do it for the next twenty years.

In the group, he values cohesion, teamwork most of all, believes that each member of the group must certainly make a contribution to its development, thus developing the unique character and image of the group: “I like working as a single group, with friends. When there is no “I”, but there is a “We”. No one should hide anything from others when it comes to the group ... "

“I don’t know how much a melody is needed, but it should be. If you can hurt your listeners for the living, you will stay with them forever! ”© Andi Deris
