Content
History
The order for the construction of the submarine was given on June 2, 1938 . The boat was laid down on December 28, 1939 at the Bremen-Vulcan shipyard under building number 4, launched on October 3, 1940 . The boat went into operation on December 3, 1940 under the command of Oberleutnant Friedrich von Hippel.

Service History
The boat made one combat campaign. Drowned 2 vessels with a total displacement of 7,290 brt . Drowned on April 5, 1941 south of Iceland , in the area with coordinates depth charges from the British destroyer HMS Wolverine and the British sloop HMS Scarborough . 42 crew members escaped, 1 died.
