History

The plant calculates its history from September 4, 1940, when the Leningrad Aviation Plant No. 387 was created by order of the People’s Commissariat of the Aviation Industry , which was later evacuated to Kazan and merged with the Kazan factory of observable parts No. 169. Since the aviation fate of the enterprise was determined in 1940, it was from this date, the history of the current KVZ is counting down. During the war years, the enterprise manufactured about 11 thousand Po-2 biplanes for the front - for which the plant’s staff was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1945. By 1945, the production of combat aircraft at the plant grew 3.5 times: from 100 to 350 units per month. Here, every tenth combat aircraft manufactured by the aviation industry of the USSR during the years of World War II was assembled. Actively involved in the post-war reconstruction of the national economy, the plant in 1947-1951 produced more than 9,000 of the country's first self-propelled S-4 combines .

In 1951, KVZ began production of Mi-1 helicopters - this was the first serial production of rotorcraft in the USSR. The Mi-4 helicopter, produced at the plant since 1954, became the first domestic helicopter exported. In 1965, the company began manufacturing the Mi-8 - the most popular and most popular of all helicopters of the Mi family.

In 1966, plant number 387 was renamed the Kazan Helicopter Plant. In 1973, the plant mastered the production of the Mi-14 amphibious helicopter , which was widely used in naval aviation. The successes of the labor collective were marked by the Order of the October Revolution (1970) and the International Golden Mercury Award (1980).

Despite the objective difficulties that existed in the development of the Russian aviation industry in the 1990s, the plant was transformed into an open joint-stock company, received the right to enter the international market, which allowed it to begin re-equipment of production, to introduce new technologies for processing materials and assembling assemblies of complex geometry.

In 1993, the company began developing Ansat - the only helicopter designed and built in Russia in the post-Soviet period. In 1997, KVZ received an official certificate from the IAC Aviation Register , which allows for the development of helicopters, and the first Ansat prototype with an electrical system was created. In 1999, made the first flight. At the moment, Ansat, along with the main products of the plant, the Mi-17 helicopter, is included in the current model range of the enterprise.

In 2007, KVZ entered the Russian Helicopters holding.

Products

Today, the enterprise has the infrastructure characteristic of multi-series production of machine-building profile, has a modern production and technological base, certified for the production and repair of helicopters: KVZ carries out a full cycle of helicopter engineering from development and serial production to its after-sales support.

Mi-17 is an average multi-purpose helicopter, which is a modernization of the Mi-8 helicopter. To date, more than 11 thousand family helicopters have been produced. Currently, the KVZ is undergoing mass production of three main modifications:

  • Mi-172 - passenger modification, designed to carry passengers. Special VIP modifications are also available;
  • Mi-17-B5 - transport modification, designed to transport cargo inside the cabin and on the external sling. It can be used for transportation of rescuers;
  • Mi-17-1V is a multi-purpose modification, on the basis of which helicopters for various purposes are produced, including a flying hospital.

Ansat is a light multi-purpose helicopter of its own design of the Kazan Helicopter Plant. The Ansat helicopter program is actively developing in two directions: military and civilian. Ansat-U training helicopter is purchased by the Russian Ministry of Defense for flight schools and combat training centers and is supplied as standard. With the help of quick-detachable equipment, the universal Ansat helicopter can be quickly re-equipped to perform a wide range of tasks: cargo delivery, passenger transportation, search and rescue operations, patrolling, fire fighting, emergency medical care.

As part of the Russian Helicopters holding program to create a medium multi-purpose helicopter Mi-38, the plant is responsible for building prototype helicopters and organizing its serial production.

To ensure their product competitiveness, it is proposed to improve service throughout the entire life cycle of the helicopter. To maintain machines in operation, the Kazan Helicopter Plant created a modern repair base, which provides a high level of restoration and repair of helicopters.

Production

According to the plan for the technical re-equipment of the enterprise, it continues to be equipped with the latest high-performance equipment, and unified processes and procedures are being introduced. The development of the production base is aimed at reducing costs and, accordingly, reducing the cost of products, increasing the volume of products. At the same time, the task is to improve the quality and reliability of the produced helicopters, expand the range of machines in terms of size range and functionality.

Design Bureau and research activities of the enterprise

As a developer, the company plans to create targeted modifications and upgraded versions of the Ansat helicopter; work on ultra-light helicopters weighing up to 1.5 tons, up to 2.5 tons; the implementation of modernization of mass-produced helicopters of the Mi-8/17 type together with the Moscow helicopter plant named after M. L. Mil and preparation for the serial production of the Mi-38 helicopter. The research activity of the enterprise is focused on increasing the economic efficiency of production and its technical level to ensure the development of competitive products. Annually up to 200 people take part in rationalization and inventive work. Of the 300 proposals they submitted, about 250 rational proposals and 30 patents for inventions, industrial designs, utility models are being put into production.
