Biography
Born in the family of G.K. Kamensky in the village of Danilikha , which later became part of the city of Perm. He graduated from Perm Gymnasium , then, in 1876 with a gold medal - Moscow Commercial Academy of Practical Sciences , and then a course at the University of Bonn , where he received the title of Master of Chemistry.
Timber merchant. He built a dry distillation plant in Perm province to produce acetone and methyl alcohol.
In 1893, I. G. Kamensky became the manager of ironworks in the villages of Tis and Molebka , and also acquired a house in Suksun , which previously belonged to the Demidovs [2] . He was the owner of the Suksunsky copper plant (since 1893).
Since 1894 - an honorary member of the Perm provincial guardianship of orphanages, since 1909 - an honorary trustee of the Perm Alekseevsky real school . He contributed to the development of handicraft industries, in particular, the production of samovars . Honorary Citizen of Perm.
In 1906-1917 he was a member of the Council of State from the Perm Zemstvo.
He was married to Lydia Nikolaevna Ilyina, whose portrait began to be painted in 1911 by V. A. Serov . Through his wife, I.G. Kamensky became a relative of the Stroganovs .
He died on March 14, 1919 in Perm. He was buried in the family crypt in the church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God (Assumption Monastery), which he himself built in 1908. According to the memoirs of S. N. Roerich , Kamensky’s sister lived in Petersburg and was friends with the Roerichs; through it, I. G. Kamensky ordered NK Roerich to paint the iconostasis of the temple [3] .
Kamensky’s house in Suksun in the Art Nouveau style burned down in 2001 [4] .
