Nikolai Alekseevich Sokolov ( May 21, 1882 [1] , Mokshan , Penza Province - November 23, 1924 , Salbris, France) - Russian lawyer, investigator for particularly important cases of the Omsk District Court, on behalf of the Supreme Ruler Admiral A.V. Biography
He graduated from the Penza 2nd male gymnasium (1900), then the Faculty of Law of Kharkov University (1904). In 1907, Nikolai Alekseevich became a judicial investigator of the Krasnoslobodsky district of his native Mokshansky district. In 1911, he was appointed an investigator in the most important cases of the Penza District Court. In 1914, Sokolov received the title of court counselor . He was elected chairman of the union of judicial investigators of the Penza district court. After the revolution of 1917, he refused to cooperate with the Soviet government and resigned from service. In October 1917, disguised as a peasant, he set off on foot to Siberia.
In 1918, he was an investigator for particularly important cases in the Omsk District Court.
In February 1919, he was appointed the supreme ruler of Russia, Admiral A. V. Kolchak, to investigate the execution of the royal family and the martyrs of Alapayevsk . Having received the investigation materials of the first investigators Nametkin and Sergeyev, Sokolov in late February 1919 published in the Omsk newspaper Zarya some results of the investigation into the murder of Emperor Nikolai the Second and his family, including reporting on the things that were found near the mine at Isetsky mine, bullets cut off finger, etc. In the period from May to July 10, 1919, Sokolov gathered a lot of material evidence, interviewed hundreds of witnesses, conducted dozens of examinations. After the capture of Yekaterinburg by the Reds (July 15, 1919), Sokolov continued to work during the retreat of the whites, conducting interrogations of witnesses and expertise, up to Harbin . The material evidence and documents of Sokolov he collected with the help of the head of the French mission, General Janin, in 1920 moved from Harbin to France . The work on interviewing witnesses and examinations of materials Sokolov continued in emigration, until his death.
Some of the investigation materials were published by Sokolov in 1924 in French.
In 1923, the famous American auto builder Henry Ford invited Sokolov to provide materials on the murder of the imperial Romanov family as evidence in court in a case instituted by the Zionists against Ford.
He was discovered dead in Paris on November 24, 1924. The cause of death has not been established [2] .
The book “ The Murder of the Imperial Family. From the notes of the judicial investigator N. A. Sokolov ”was published after the death of Sokolov in 1925 and, according to some, has signs of editing by unauthorized persons. By virtue of this, Sokolov’s full authorship is called into question [3] .
