History
In 1838, on the right bank of the Terek River , at the entrance to the Elkhotovsky Gate , an Ossetian village was founded. Later, the Muslim village of Elhot appeared on the plain beyond the village of Zamankul .
In 1839, the commander of the Caucasus Corps, General Golovin, informed the Minister of War: “Last year, in 1838, a Muslim Ossetian village called Elkhotovsky was settled on the right bank of the Terek. 88 families from the Muslim villages of Beslan (Tulatovo), Zilgi , Batako , Brut , Zamankul , Kardzhin settled in it ” [2] .
In subsequent years, the settlement of the village continued. Residents were mainly engaged in agriculture , livestock farming and trade . At the beginning of the 20th century, there were 3 mosques in the village.
Near the village of Elkhotovo is the ancient settlement of Verkhny Dzhulat . In the Golden Horde time, there was a settlement here, which, as suggested ( V. Egorov. The historical geography of the Golden Horde in the 12th – 14th centuries ), can be identified with the famous Yass city Dedyakov , which existed from the 10th century through the 14th century. A church, two mosques and a minaret dating from the reign of the Khan of Uzbekistan were revealed at the ancient settlement. The findings made here testify to the significant role of this city in the political and economic life of the North Caucasus.
