Qualification

Team sprint competitions in men's ski racing at the 2010 Winter Olympics took place on February 22 .

All races were held at Whistler Olympic Park . From 10:15 to 11:45 local time ( UTC-8 ) semi-finals were held, and from 12:30 to 13:15 the final.

None of the prize-winners of 2006 participated in either the individual or team sprint competitions. Of the winners of the previous individual competitions in the sprint participated bronze medalist Petter Nortug in a pair with Eysteyn Pettersen .

In the semifinals, the Swedish team failed to qualify, and the Belarusian team did not finish, as Leonid Korneenko at the finish line confused the corridors and instead of the finish turned into the one where the transfer of the baton took place.

In the finals to the fourth transfer of the relay and most of the fifth stage, the athletes went through a tight group. Shortly before his finish, Tim Charncke went into the lead, creating a slight, about two seconds, advantage for Axel Tayhman during the transfer of the stage. Tayhman was in the lead before the pre-finishing climb, and only Petter Northug , Alexey Petukhov and Alexey Poltoranin attempted to catch up with him. Poltaranin fell behind on the rise, and in the end the Kazakhstan national team took the fifth place, losing also to Canadians. Northug on the rise bypassed Taykhman, won the gold medal for the Norwegian team, and Petukhov almost caught up with him, so the second and third places had to be shared with the help of a photo finish.

For all winners, except Northug, their medals were the first at the Olympics, for Northug is the second medal after the bronze in the individual sprint.
