The first church was built by the hermits of St. Jerome in honor of the Egyptian hermit Onufriy (IV century) in 1439. Frescoes in the altar apse are noteworthy: “Mary with the baby”, “Nursery”, “ Flight into Egypt ”, Baldassare Peruzzi painted at the bottom of the apse in the top - Pinturicchio .
In the first chapel of the southern Gothic nave is the work of Antoniazzo Romano “The Annunciation”, in the second fresco by Giovanni Batista Ricci (1605), the image of the Madonna of Loreto Annibale Caracci . In the last chapel from the exit is the marble tombstone of Torquato Tasso (1857) by Giuseppe Fabbris. In the Tasso Museum in the monastery, the poet’s manuscripts, ancient editions of his books, a death mask are preserved.
