Overview
In the “Book of Songs” the history (from V — VI to the beginning of the X century) of Arabic song and poetry is given by fragments of facts, events, and not as a historical process. It is the most important and extensive monument of its kind. Includes 100 songs of famous poets with the music of Ibrahim al-Mausili , Ismail ibn Jami and Fulaikh ibn al-Avra . In addition to poems of the pre-Islamic, Umayyad and Abbasid eras, it contains detailed biographies of poets, composers and famous performers and singers of that time, historical jokes, etc.
The “Book of Songs” is a valuable source for studying the history of Arabic literature and culture until the X century. It is dedicated to the emir of Seyfaddaulat from the Hamdanid dynasty . The general selection of poems and the explanatory text correspond to the political moment and the urgent task of awakening the national identity of the feudal strata of Arab society in their struggle against the Byzantines and Turks.
In the “Book of Songs” for the first time the drafts game of kirkats is mentioned .
