Content
Geographical Position
Located on the river Zherebets 115 km from Donetsk , 10 km from the railway station Yampol .
History
Before the revolution, the village of Popovka was part of the Izyum district of the Kharkov province .
Status of urban-type settlement since 1938.
During World War II , the front line twice passed through the village.
In January 1989, the population size was3376 people [4] .
As of January 1, 2013, the population was 2,650 [5] .
Archeology
Kirov site of ancient settlement is located on the north / north-eastern outskirts of the village. It is named after the village "Kirovsk, Krasnolimansky district", and occupies the plateau of the high right bank of the r. Black Stallion, at the place where the stream flows into it [6] . The total area of the monument is 60 hectares.
Many fragments of ceramics from the Saltovo-Mayak culture have been found here. The extensive settlement was hardly explored.
Famous natives
Heroes of the Soviet Union Konstantin Usenko and Pavel Zubenko were born in the village.
