Biography
Born in 1772 in the family of an old noble family of Kursk province Bakhmetev . The family was the eldest son. Parents: Nikolai Ivanovich Bakhmetev
and Natalya Ivanovna, nee Maslova . He began his military service in the Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment in 1789 , where he was recorded as a sergeant. For a short time passed the officer ranks in the Izmailovsky Life Guards Regiment . He took part in battles with the Swedes, for which he received the rank of ensign in 1790 . He was promoted to colonel in 1797 . During the reign of Emperor Paul I, he received the rank of Major General in May 30, 1798 and was appointed chief of the Rylsky Musketeer Regiment and received the Order of St. John of Jerusalem .
Nikolai Nikolayevich himself, in submissions addressed to Emperor Paul I, and then Alexander I, indicated his full title as follows:
Major General, Orenburg Military Governor, Head of the civil unit in this province, Commander of the Orenburg border region, Inspector of the Orenburg Infantry Inspectorate, Chef of the Rila Musketeer Regiment, Orders of the Russian St. Anna First Class Cavalier and Maltese St. John of Jerusalem Commander Bakhmetev
Nikolai Nikolaevich was appointed Orenburg military governor on September 30, 1798. In 1801 he opened the Orenburg noble military school. By the highest order of October 28, 1801, Major General, chief of the Rylsky Musketeer Regiment, was fired on leave for 8 weeks. In December 1803, he was dismissed, and on May 20, 1811 he was again accepted for service and on August 28 of the same year he was appointed Smolensk military governor .
During the Patriotic War of 1812 he was appointed commander of the consolidated grenadier division of the 1st Western Army, then on April 22, 1812 he was appointed commander of the 11th Infantry Division of the 4th Infantry Corps of the Western Army. He fought at Ostrovny , Smolensk and near Borodino . In the battle he was seriously wounded in the leg and left the battle. After the cure, he switched to civil service. He was dismissed on April 24, 1813 .
Since 1815 he was appointed Volyn governor.
Family
Wife - Ekaterina Alexandrovna Naryshkina (1791-1821), daughter of team leader Alexander Alexandrovich Naryshkin from her marriage to Princess Varvara Ivanovna Beloselskaya (1768-1825); niece of I.A. Naryshkin . There were no children in the marriage.
